Introducing "ICU" – An Initiative for ICU Awareness and Transparency

The idea of creating the ICU website emerged from over 15 years of firsthand experience in intensive care medicine. While treating critically ill patients in the ICU, we observed a consistent challenge: patients and their families often have numerous questions and concerns about the illness, investigations, treatment plans, and outcomes. Unfortunately, due to the demanding and fast-paced nature of ICU care, it is not always possible for doctors to address every query in detail.

This often leaves families feeling anxious, confused, and uncertain about the treatment process.

To bridge this communication gap, we at Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre—a dedicated team of multispecialty doctors—decided to create a patient-friendly digital interface. The goal of the ICU website is to provide clear, accessible, and trustworthy information about what happens in the ICU. It covers:

    • Common ICU conditions and diseases
    • Treatment options and typical investigations
    • Reasons for prolonged ICU stays
    • Possible complications
    • The collaborative, multispecialty environment in ICU care
    • And answers to many of the questions patients and families often have

Our mission is simple: to reduce the anxiety of the unknown. We want families to feel informed, empowered, and reassured—so they can support their loved ones with trust and confidence. At the same time, this initiative enables our clinical teams to continue providing high-quality care without the added stress of communication gaps.

This website is designed in simple, easy-to-understand language, making it accessible to people from all backgrounds. When patients and their families are confident in the care process, outcomes improve, and the journey through critical illness becomes a little more bearable.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to all my colleagues who have generously contributed their expertise and insights on various subjects, making the creation of this website possible. Your dedication and support have been invaluable.

I am also deeply grateful to all our patients for placing their trust and confidence in us throughout their most critical moments. Your faith inspires us to continuously strive for excellence.

A special note of thanks to Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre for providing an outstanding environment, advanced technology, robust infrastructure, and a committed team of healthcare professionals — all of which enable us to deliver the highest standard of patient care.

Thank you all for being an essential part of this journey.

We hope this initiative proves valuable to the wider community, and we welcome your suggestions to help us improve and serve you better.

Wishing all patients a swift recovery, and their families strength, trust, and peace during the healing process.
